Who Should Get Botox Injections?
This is a simple question with a complex answer.
It has been commonly believed that “only old people” need Botox®. While it is true that these products are popular, non-invasive ways to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, they are in no way meant only “for old people”.
Let’s debunk Botox myths!
Aging is a natural and inevitable process whereby intricate biological phenomena occur at molecular, cellular, and systemic levels resulting in a progressive decline of physiological processes and function. This happens in all organs of the body including skin, bone, and connective tissue. Wrinkling and sagging of the skin around the face and neck occur due to loss of fat pads, resorption of the underlying bone, and diminished production of collagen fibers, among other factors.
While aging is a natural part of life, it is influenced by a combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors such as stress and sun exposure. Everyone ages differently and therefore, there is no right age when to start injectables.
There is also evidence to support the prophylactic or preventive effect of Botox. Having been on the market for over three decades, it has become apparent that getting Botox injections earlier in life, before lines and furrows are etched in, is a safe way to soften the appearance of aging skin.
Hence, Botox is not “just for old people” and many individuals can benefit from the effects of this great product. However, while this is exciting news, we recommend individuals wait at least until their 20s to begin neurotoxin injections.
