Botox ®
Botox ® is the brand name for the protein onabotulinumtoxinA, which functions as a neurotoxin – meaning it prevents nerve signals from reaching a muscle, essentially blocking communication between nerves and muscles. This results in the muscle’s inability to produce movement, also called paralysis. When the muscles don’t move, the skin overlying those muscles also experiences decreased movement, resulting in less wrinkling.
The commercially available Botox® is a pharmaceutically processed form of a naturally occurring toxin from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, resulting in a safe and effective product used for cosmetic and medical purposes.
Xeomin®
If you have never received neurotoxin injections before, or are looking for a newer product to treat or prevent dynamic wrinkles, Xeomin ® may be the right product for you. Our experienced, board-certified physician can offer you a comprehensive evaluation and determine a treatment plan for you.
Xeomin® is a newer, popular neurotoxin on the market. Like Botox ® it also works by blocking neuromuscular activity, however, it uses a different protein called incobotulinumtoxinA, an FDA-approved form of botulinum toxin.
Xeomin® is produced through special extraction and purification processes meant to remove unnecessary proteins around the main product. This results in a unique, pure toxin that can treat fine lines as well as deeper creases. It is ideal for individuals looking for a fresh look.
Dysport®
Dysport® can be a great option for individuals with vertical lines between the brows, looking to improve their appearance and to prevent the deepening of existing lines or the appearance of additional creases. Dysport ® can also be used on other areas of the face to smoothen lines and enhance the overall appearance.
Dysport ® is an FDA-approved botulinum toxic formulation (abobotulinumtoxinA) generally used for the treatment of frown lines, forehead lines and other dynamic wrinkles on the face. Like other commercially available botulinum toxins, Dysport ® works by decreasing muscle movement, over time this leads to fading of visible wrinkles for a more youthful appearance.

What are Wrinkles?
Wrinkles (formally known as rhytides) are lines, furrows and creases that form in your skin due to repetitive movement, age-related skin damage and loss of underlying fat, bone and collagen around the face.
Dynamic wrinkles form due to repetitive movement of the underlying muscles, they are related to facial expressions and are more visible with certain movements. With time, these creases and lines can deepen resulting in permanent signs on the face. Some examples include fine lines around the eyes, known as “crow’s feet”. On the forehead they are called the “forehead lines” and “frown lines” or “the elevens” around the bridge of the nose.
When neurotoxins are injected into specific muscles of the face, the muscles “freeze up” resulting in decreased movement and smoothing of creases and wrinkles on the face.
